Messi shirtless at the beach

Leo Messi goes shirtless at the beach in Rio de Janeiro after a disappointing World Cup for the Argentina superstar. At least his Italian girlfriend is pretty hot.

Argentina blitzkreiged by Germans

Tears in Buenos Aires, parties all over Germany after the 4-0 beatdown. Argentina dominated possession but a poor tactical approach by Diego Maradona meant that the Germans were always comfortable on the pitch and they left no doubt about which was the better team

Guess we won’t see Maradona run naked down the streets!

Messi’s penis

Greece didn’t have much of a chance against Argentina, but that didn’t stop them from reaching to for Messi’s wang. Gives the film “Get him to the Greek” a whole new meaning.

El chorizo de Lionel Messi

He better get used to all sorts of new handling now. He be captain!

Group B done. Argentina and South Korea advance.

A team full of subs + Messi beat Greece 2-0 in a game that was only a formality. Argentina get all nine points out of Group B and advance as the winners.

South Korea faced Nigeria in a game best summed up by Yukubu and his misses. Amazingly Nigeria would have gone through if they won, after a horrid tournament.

Final standings:

Higuain hat-trick, Argentina win

It was a good effort by the South Koreans, that challenged Argentina with their high pressure effort, but in the end they tired down and Argentina validated their domination with goals.

An early own goal saw Argentina go up without much to show for, but then the Higuain show started, assisted by Messi, Ag├╝ero and Tevez.

Argentina still leave a lot of question marks on defense but as long as they keep scoring, they can overcome defensive lapses with the firepower at the top.

Group B. Argentina 1 – Nigeria 0

Diego in a designer suit was almost more interesting that parts of the game at times, in a match we expected more from. Argentina had their best lineup in, with firepower like Messi, Tevez, Higuain up front.

The first score came quickly, Veron lined up a perfect cross from the corner sport and a flying Gabriel Heinze came in from way deep to rifle in a header to the top corner. Even with a man at the post, Nigeria had no chance to stop the unmarked header by Heinze. Messi then took over the game, dribbling past defenders at will and getting some great shots on goal, but none fell in. Higuian missed several sitters and within the first 15 minutes you’d think this was never going to be close. But a unknown goalkeeper playing in the Israeli league out played Messi and company, his name is Vincent Enyeama. Playing confidently even while down 1-0, Enyeama rejected anything and everything that game his way. His reflexes and positioning were fantastic, and he surely put together the best effort by any player in the games so far.

The Nigerians did pose a threat on the attact, but their players rarely got a shot on target. Argentina was far and away the more dangerous team but their skill players weren’t in sync and it showed. At one point Argentina had a 4 on 2 counterattack going, with Di Maria, Messi, Tevez and Higuian no less, yet they didn’t manage to score. It was that kind of day for them.

The Star

Vincent Enyeama. GK, Nigeria.
Stopping Messi has been one of the most difficult challenges for the opposition all year. Outshining him? Rarely heard of. Enyeama did both.

The Ugly Duckling

Angel Di Maria. M, Midfield.
Seems counterintuitive to have the worst player in the winning squad (and the best in the losing one), but Di Maria was completely missing for most of the match. There was several points in the first half that I doubted he was even in the lineup. When he did get involved, his touches weren’t great and was shut down by the opposition.
